Virtual: Interfaith Alignment Presents Alignment Reads

Poet Juliet Patterson will lead us in a session that combines the creative process and discovery centered on her memoir, Sinkhole: A Legacy of Suicide, a creative project that was written in, around, and through grief. In 2009, Juliet Patterson was recovering from a serious car accident when she learned her father had died by suicide. His death was part of a disturbing pattern in her family.

Milkweed Presents Ancestor Trouble: Unearthing Family Narratives

Join us for a special panel discussion and the in-person kickoff of the monthly event series Milkweed Presents! For this inaugural conversation, Juliet Patterson, author of the stunning memoir Sinkhole: A Legacy of Suicide, speaks with Hawona Sullivan Janzen, James Curry, Emily Strasser, and Tom Nguyen about unearthing family narratives, and the impact of our ancestors’ tales on those who follow.

We hope you can join us at Milkweed Books, our brick-and-mortar independent bookstore located on the first floor of Open Book, at 6 p.m. for a truly singular discussion about what our families and relatives’ stories can tell us about our own lives.

Milkweed Presents is a monthly event series featuring Milkweed authors as curators of conversation with local writers and community organizers on a topic of their choosing. These events are held in-person in our bookstore, Milkweed Books, on the first Wednesday of the month.

NAMI Ramsey County Book Club (Virtual Event)

Join NAMI Ramsey to discuss books with a mental illness theme. Learn through compassionate conversation!

Some book topics may be triggering. Since we oftentimes are reading books for the first time ourselves, we can't always list a specific trigger warning. If you are concerned about the subject matter, please explore each book's GoodReads' page prior to reading; we will provide a link for more information in each Book Club event.
